"Breastfeeding is Wild" What words come to mind when you reflect on your own experience?

Breastfeeding is at its best, magical, cosy, soothing. It’s also exhausting, messy, and incredibly challenging at times… An emotional roller coaster to say the least!

Motherhood for you is...

Freeing, heartbreaking, overwhelming, beautiful.

What challenges have you encountered on your breastfeeding journey, and how have you moved through them?

Low milk supply which has lead to us mixed feeding, sore boobs, latching issues. Beyond that, I’ve felt the societal pressure to breastfeed, that ‘breast is best’ which can be so pervasive and mentally exhausting when you’re struggling with low supply. It’s really hard not to compare yourself to other mums but I keep telling myself everyone’s journey is different and there’s no right or wrong way. You just do your best.

What do you love most about breastfeeding?

That it draws me into the present moment with my daughter.

Who or what has supported you the most during this time?

The midwives at the hospital were incredibly supportive and a wealth of wisdom for us in those early days. We received lots of support through the hospital lactation consultants as well. From my understanding it is an area
that is underfunded and under researched , like so many women’s health
issues.

In your experience, what do mums need during postpartum / recovery / breastfeeding?

Nourishing food, a calm environment, words of encouragement, rest wherever you can get it.

What would you want other breastfeeding mothers to know — especially those who might be struggling or feeling alone?

That You’re not alone. No one is perfect, no one’s breastfeeding journey is perfect. Be kind to yourself and give yourself grace.

Your thoughts on Mumma Milla’s leakproof bras — how have they supported your day-to-day breastfeeding experience?

I love how seamlessly they fit into my existing wardrobe, there’s something a bit extra about them whilst still being practical and functional, I didn’t know it was possible to still feel sexy and cool in a maternity bra!
