"Breastfeeding is Wild". What words come to mind when you reflect on your own experience ?
There’s something so primal and ancient about breastfeeding — it’s not always soft and serene, sometimes it’s messy and painful, but it’s deeply connecting. It truly is a complete giving of self.
Motherhood for you is…
…a complete rebirth. A remembering. A shedding. It’s holding space for tiny hearts while figuring out how to hold your own. It’s chaotic, grounding, and the deepest love I’ve ever known — one that’s lived in my bones now. It’s beautiful and messy at the same time. It’s cracked me open in ways I could have never imagined. It’s powerful and vulnerable all at once.
Describe your current breastfeeding journey?
I’m tandem feeding. It’s a dance I never imagined I’d be doing, but somehow it works. Some days are beautiful and calm, others feel like I’m stretched in every direction. Completely touched out & wondering how I got here/ didn’t wean Tide earlier. But I look at them — these two souls still so tethered to me — and I feel so honoured to be their safe place/ their home.
In your experience, what do mums need during postpartum / recovery / breastfeeding?
They need to be mothered, too. Please mother the mother. Nourishment — in every sense. Warm meals, ( Icannot stress this enough) warm arms, warm words. Space to rest, space to feel. And to be reminded that they are doing something extraordinary — even when it feels ordinary or unseen.
What challenges have you encountered on your breastfeeding journey, and how have you moved through them?
While I feel I’ve been mostly quite fortunate with breastfeeding I’ve suffered from very regular bouts of mastitis. For anyone who’s experienced it- it can make you extremely sick & you have to just push through & feed through the pain. I’ve moved through with the help of beautiful support, but also with permission — permission to not do it all perfectly. And to remind myself, often, that it’s okay to ask for help and to trust my instincts. It’s been so much easier trusting myself and my body the second time around.
What advice would you give to new mums beginning their breastfeeding journey?
Be gentle with yourself. It’s okay if it doesn’t feel magical at first. It’s okay if it hurts, or feels overwhelming. Find people who will listen without fixing, hold space without judgement, and remind you that your intuition matters. Get support early! Asking for help isn’t a weakness. You know your baby — and yourself — better than you think.
Your thoughts on Mumma Milla’s leakproof bras — how have they supported your day-to-day breastfeeding experience?
Game. Changer. They’ve been a quiet comfort in the chaos- the unspoken hero. Soft, supportive, and honestly so beautifully made — like they were designed by someone who really gets it. No leaks, no fuss, just ease — and that’s a gift when your days are already full. Not to mention chic- the new chocolate brown colour is a personal fave & since your bra is often on display as a breastfeeding mama it’s a bonus when it looks this good.
