Leakproof Washing & Care Routine plus General FAQ's
Recommended Leakproof Washing + Care Routine
As our bras are designed to hold breastmilk - it's imperative to take a little extra care to ensure your are keeping up with hygiene and advised washing routine.
Proper rinsing, daily washing, and thorough drying are all it takes to keep your leakproof bras in great condition.
Here are some tips to keep your leakproof bras in the best possible condition:
- Make sure to wash your used bras daily.
They should not sit at the bottom of your laundry basket or bedroom floor with breastmilk. - If you can't wash, make sure to rinse your bras under cold water until the water runs clear. Avoid fabric softeners.
- When drying we recommend turning your bras/cami's inside out as the leakproof layer can take longer to dry.
- Sunlight, and fresh air can really help with fast drying.
- If weather is cooler, make sure your bras are dried in a well-aired space, and are completely dry within a day. Hanging them where they can get some good airflow or natural sunlight will speed this up
- It's not recommended to leave your bras damp at any point.
- Make sure your leakproof bras are 100% dry before storing them in your cupboard /drawers.
- Store your leakproof bras in an airy basket on a shelf in your wardrobe.
- If you feel your bras need a revive, mix one part white vinegar with four parts cold water. Soak your bras in this natural solution for at least 1 hour for a re-fresh.
- Like any other undergarment, if not changed or washed properly, it can develop odours over time. Just remember: wash often, dry completely.
What is the best way to wash the bralettes?
We recommend washing the bralettes initially before first wear to activate the leakproof layers.
Hand-washing is advised for best results.
The nature of our soft fabric is that it is a very fine knit, and therefore susceptible to pilling if it comes into contact with any textured or rough surfaces and clothing. Delicate care is advised ie. hand washing with a natural detergent, not wringing out, drying flat and keeping out of direct sunlight.
Very rarely some pilling and bobbles in areas of high friction can occur if you wear items of clothing / fabrics that are rough against the bralettes ie. rough linen etc.
This can also occur if the bralettes are placed in a washing bag with other bras with hooks and clasps. Best to hand wash.
We suggest that this can easily be removed by using a pilling comb and lightly combing pilling away.
For those who are drying their bras during winter periods, with limited sunlight, it's important to make sure all layers of the garment dry quickly in a good ventilated and spaced to speed up drying time.
Do not iron. Do not dry clean. Do not tumble dry. Line dry in the shade.
Why do I need to wash each bra daily?
Our bras feature built-in leakproof layers have been designed to absorb and hold leaking breastmilk. To keep your nipple health in-check it's very important to wash your bras daily to keep them hygienic and clean. Many of our mums enjoy our 4-PACK bundles.
We also ask for you to make sure to NOT keep wearing your bra if it is completely saturated. Woman's breastmilk leakage/let-downs differ from person to person, so please use your discretion and change the bra throughout the course of the day/night if you have over-supply, heavy let-downs. It's imperative to not wear a saturated bra against your skin. You can always pop in some silicone milk catchers or re-usable bamboo nursing pads whilst nursing to help with heavy flow.
Additional care for your leakproof bralettes
Sometimes, very rarely, other rough fibres from garments you wear can catch onto the fabric of our leakproof bralettes causing it to pill in the areas it's come into contact with.
This is not a fault of the bralette and it can easily be brought back to it's original state.
We recommend gently using a pilling comb to remove these surplus fibres.
Bralettes need to be washed in a delicates bag (by themselves) and not with any other intimates with hooks / clasps that can compromise the Mumma Milla fabric.
What is the difference between the day bra and the night bra?
- Our day bra features a very discreet soft cup with it's built in absorbent layers. The cups not only provide shape and support, but also give you coverage throughout the day so nipples don't show through clothing.
- Our night time bra has no cups but also has built in leakproof layers. It offers gentle elasticated support & simple crossover nursing access. This can most definitely be worn during the day too.
I have heavy-let downs and leak through all my clothes and sheets, what do I do?
We have designed our leakproof bras to capture as much milk as possible, however, our bras cannot keep up with extreme milk loss unfortunately.
If this is the case for you, we recommend using our bralettes for short periods of time. Alternatively you can keep a supply of bralettes so you can change them throughout the course of the day with our bundles which is a popular choice for many mums.
For our night time bras we suggest maybe adding in the re-usable bamboo nursing pads to begin with and you can take these out during the night. It saves you having to put in new pads during the crazy nursing hours at night time.
How to nurse in a Mumma Milla Bralette / Cami
Recommended method for nursing is to drop the straps off your shoulder to expose your entire breast for easy nursing access.
For all crossover designs, these can easily be pulled to the side for simple nursing access.
For non-pullover designs due to the stretchy fabric, you can drop the strap over your shoulder for easy access or pull under your breast if comfortable.
Always ensure the bralette / cami leaves the entire breast exposed and is not bunching or pinching or causing pressure anywhere on the breast during a feed.

What is MUMMA MILLA sizing like?
As our bras feature a buttery soft stretchy modal fabric, we feel that our bra's have a little more 'give' to grow with you and your fluctuations pre and postpartum.
The best way to establish your size is by grabbing a tape measure and measuring your bust and underbust measurements.
Our Size Guide on each product will give you some direction what size is best suited for you.
The bra is seamless with no clips or clasps and the stretchy material allows it to hug your body in all the right places.
Please be mindful that when you have given birth and are venturing down the breastfeeding journey you may find that your breasts become larger and feel heavy, warmer and uncomfortable when your milk ‘comes in’, usually about 2–6 days postbirth.
