Finding the "it" bra for your birth

Finding the "it" bra for your birth

We welcome Allahna Brooks who has been a part of our Mothers at Birth Series.
She speaks to us at M. Magazine about her recent water birth and how finding a nursing bra is a crucial part of feeling comfortable and confident for one of the most momentous moment(s) in your life of bringing life into the world.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself :)

I’m a 29 year old mother of two boys aged 3 and 2 weeks old. I live in the coastal town of Wallabi Point NSW with my partner, boys and his two older girls aged 9 and 6.

2. How was your pregnancy journey - the highs / the lows ...

Pregnancy can always be a bit hit and miss. Some days you feel fantastic, other days you feel like you can’t get out of bed. I was very sick up until 14 weeks and then the illness returned around 30 weeks. Between those weeks there were days I didn’t even feel pregnant and I was going about my days completely normal.

3. How did you envisage your birth  .... The ups/downs/ any advice for other mums

My birth was exactly what I envisioned. I never had a plan with my first and know that plans can be disheartening as they don’t always go to plan. I told myself that if I got the opportunity I would go for an  unmedicated water birth. It so happened that I got exactly what I wanted.

"The warmth of the bath was so soothing in between contractions."

I definitely think being in the water assisted me with my pushing as the moment I got in my body started pushing itself. It was so magical being able to reach down and feel my baby during birth as well as pull him out and deliver him onto my chest where he immediately let out a big cry. My heart was so happy and I was instantly in the biggest love bubble.

4. How did you find the first few days post-birth

Post birth with your second baby is a whole different story.

"Bobby has taught me to live in the moment rather than try and control the moment."

I feel like this time around rather than survival mode I am in thriving mode and
I couldn’t be happier

5. Your breastfeeding journey so far

Little Bobby is a champion feeder. He latched straight away and is a milk monster.
I call myself the barista haha!

6. Your favourite postpartum products

Definitely the Mumma Milla bra :)
A nappy caddy and a nursing pillow. All must haves!

7. We'd love to hear your thoughts on finding a comfy bra for birth, and your thoughts of the Mumma Milla bralettes?

After seeing Mumma Milla pop up on my instagram multiple times, I decided to click on their page and have a look. I was immediately drawn to the leak proof component of the bras. The scallop design really caught my eye. I pondered on purchasing for many weeks and finally decided to bite the bullet and purchase.

When I received the leakproof bandeau bralette I put it straight on and was instantly impressed by how comfortable but supportive it was all in one.

"There are no wires digging into me and the way it sat just felt perfect."

It was a no brainer that I was going to choose this bra to attempt a water birth in as the fabric is very absorbent and didn’t feel heavy when worn in water.
The bra was exactly that during labour and it was easy for me to pull down for
baby boy to latch after birth.
